Winter Formal 2007
by Garrett Frisby
"An Asian affair” was hosted Saturday night from 8-11pm. The dance consisted of around 300 high school students all in one room at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo.
The outfits of some people were let’s say, less Asian than the massage centers at the Santa Maria Mall. Most articles consisted black tuxedos or for the more daring, white suits.
Professional photographers were available at Embassy Suites for pictures of couples, groups or single portraits. The prices were reasonable and were very popular with the students, a way to keep the lasting memories that you couldn’t take on your own.
The dance floor was small, but this created what some could call a solid wall of people, dancing and having fun. The lack of space accounted for the lack of adult intervention, which most say was greatly appreciated. The acclaimed “freak dancing” could not be subdued on the inner level of the dance floor while the people stuck on the outside were repetitively scorned upon for their “ravish behavior.”
The dance lasted exactly 3 hours, once the bell struck 11 the music was shut off. Not even one last song for everyone left on the dance floor. Not only was the music instantly shut off, but it wasn’t even a slow song. As a matter of fact, only 3 slow songs were even played, when most of the people attending the dance were couples, although not all.
Over all people enjoyed the freedom received from the staff and enjoyed dancing with friends.
I give it a worthy, 7 out of 10.
