Press Box

As some of you may or may not be informed of, not too long ago, in September ’08 a press box was being built for our schools sports; however construction was halted and this has left us all in a situation of confusion, calamity, and disorder. (Well, not really.)

We went straight to the source to uncover the reason for why this project had been halted. Our first interview, with Mrs. Johnson (courtesy of Cristian Kirby), was short but informative. Our questions were simple, what time did the press box construction halt, and why? Do you happen to know when it will begin again, or finished? What are you going to do with the materials while construction halted? And finally what exactly required resuming construction? She replied with:

“Construction was halted because the district never approved the plan. There are many steps that must be taken before anything can be constructed on a school campus. We are working with facility supervisors at the district level to get this project completed. Yes, we do need to consider covering the current structure so that the materials are not damaged.”

After we received this helpful reply, one of our writers (Adam Zelinsky) proceeded to ask Mr. Edwards the same questions, in hope of gaining more information. His reply was a little more informative:

“Yes the project did stop in September ‘08 because of the district wanted to insure the permits were done correctly and were passed. We don’t have storage plans at the moment, after all the press box is attached to the top of the bleachers, and still at the moment none of the plans have passed so construction is at a standstill. We don’t know when construction will begin again.”

The press box is, as Edwards said, currently sitting on top of the bleachers and will not be used or finished for some time. If you want to see it done we urge you to talk to the district or go to a meeting and let them know you want construction to continue. Until then the press box will be sitting there forever, or at least until the district actually approves it. So we’ll see how things turn out eventually, but for now you can bask in its unfinished glory out near the track.
